I Want To Talk Box Office Collection Day 1:
The movie “I Want To Talk” had a modest box office opening. It just earned approximately ₹25 Lakh to 30 Lakh on its first day of November 22. The movie received critical praise for its performances and story. The film faced stiff competition from the re-release of Karan Arjun. As I have explained, the industry speculation suggests that the theatrical earnings might remain limited. It could perform better on confirmed Amazon OTT due to its emotional and relatable themes.

I Want To Talk Movie Story in a Nutshell
The movie follows Arjun Sen and the Arjun Sen’s role is played by Abhishek Bachchan.
In this film, Arjun Sen is an NRI (Non-resident Indian) who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. The doctors gave him just 100 days to live. Against all odds, Arjun Sen undergoes over 20 surgeries battling the disease with unyielding determination.
Simultaneously, he navigates the complexities of a strained relationship with his daughter, Reya while dealing with the emotional aftermath of a divorce from his wife.
At the end, he told everything to his wife that he has undergone all these challenges, pains and cancerous surgeries.
Although the plot focuses on perseverance and human connections, the storytelling often feels uneven. Key emotional beats such as Arjun’s relationship with Reya and his ex-wife are left underdeveloped diluting the intended emotional impact.

Performance Highlights: Abhishek Bachchan Shines
If there’s one redeeming quality in I Want To Talk, it is Abhishek Bachchan’s stellar performance.
He brings depth, vulnerability and charm to Arjun’s character showcasing a wide range of emotions. Despite the lackluster script, Bachchan’s portrayal keeps the audience invested.
Other notable performances include Ahilya Bamroo as Reya who adds subtle warmth to the father-daughter relationship and Kristin Goddard as Nancy, the nurse who becomes Arjun’s confidante. They included Johnny but they could have casted him in this film for a comedy touch. Since this film has no comedy, it leaves fans yearning for his signature comedic touch.
Direction and Screenplay: A Missed Opportunity
This film is directed by Shoojit Sircar. He is well known for masterpieces like Piku and Sardar Udham Singh but this movie falls short of expectations, I could personally say.
The screenplay lacks cohesion failing to deliver the emotional intensity that the story demands. Pivotal moments such as Arjun’s struggle with his diagnosis and his fractured relationships are glossed over.
Additionally, the absence of impactful background music and weak character arcs further diminish the film’s impact. Arjun’s ex-wife whose actions catalyze much of his emotional turmoil is given minimal screen time making her role feel superficial.
Cinematography and Music: Mixed Results
Avik Mukhopadhyay’s cinematography captures the picturesque Californian backdrop beautifully but doesn’t contribute much to the film’s emotional narrative.
The music composed by Taba Chake is another mixed bag. While tracks like “Dil Ghabraye” and “Gum Ho Kahan” are soothing, they fail to elevate the storytelling. The background score by George Joseph is underwhelming leaving key scenes lacking the dramatic punch they deserve.
Themes and Execution: Lack of Depth
The film attempts to explore themes of resilience, mortality and familial bonds but it only scratches the surface.
Arjun’s sarcastic humor and optimism are overshadowed by a disjointed narrative. The emotional climax which should leave the audience teary-eyed feels rushed and fails to connect.
Why It Falls Short of Theatrical Appeal
At a runtime of 122 minutes, I Want To Talk drags in parts making it difficult to sustain audience engagement. The pacing issues coupled with minimal emotional highs make it more suited for an OTT release than a theatrical experience.
